Have you heard of a little something called the MySpace? Or maybe a spry little cable channel called MTV? I’ve been informed that all of these things are common knowledge to anyone under the age of 30, and as a mature-looking 29-year-old, I want to ask you young readers out there: what does MTV, MySpace, and young people all have in common?
Try the “Film Your Issue” Film Festival. An online film festival (link) for people between the ages of 14 and 24, the FYI Film Festival encourages aspiring filmmakers to make short movies under two minutes long about the most important issue in their lives.
With over 500 entries this year, the festival’s judges have selected 34 deserving semi-finalists, and right now, you can view and vote on those semi-finalists online at Think MTV (link) and MySpace IMPACT (link). Online voting ends May 13 at 5pm.
Now, why do we care at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel & Spa? Well, first, we believe the children are the future. Even I was once a kid, only 29 years ago. Second, in early June, FYI will be coming to Hollywood, and winners from across the U.S. will be hosted at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel & Spa. MySpace and FYI will be co-hosting a VIP cocktail reception for semi-finalists, VIP guests, and premier sponsors in the hotel’s prestigious Panorama Suite on June 5th.
To help celebrate FYI, we’re also going to be recruiting some of our hotel cast members to name their favorite short films in the festival and talk about the issues most important to them. We’ll be posting these reviews and other news from the festival here on the blog, so you should come back soon and check it out. Now, remember, go vote!
This is Bruce, signing off.
